7 Important Practices

1. Bible As Our Sole Authority

“The whole Bible was given to us by inspiration from God and is useful to teach us what is true…” – 2 Timothy 3:16

God’s Word is our ultimate authority. It is completely reliable and true. We look to Scripture first when making decisions and strive to live according to its guidance. We encourage daily Bible reading, study, and memorization. The Bible is the foundation of everything we believe and do.

2. Autonomy of the Local Church

As part of the Baptist Union, we believe Jesus Christ is the Head of our church. We gladly work alongside other churches, but we also celebrate the freedom of each congregation to follow Christ’s leading in shaping its leadership, ministry, and mission.

3. The Priesthood of Every Believer

“…He has made us a kingdom of priests to serve God…” – Revelation 1:6
“You are… the King’s priests… God’s own people…” – 1 Peter 2:9

Every believer is called to serve. You don’t need a special title to minister. We believe that every Christian is a full-time servant of Christ, and every member is encouraged to find and fulfill their ministry. All believers have direct access to God through prayer and His Word.

4. Tithing

“A tithe of everything… belongs to the Lord; it is holy to the Lord.” – Leviticus 27:30

We honor God with our finances. Tithing giving 10% of our income is a biblical practice that supports the work of the church and expresses our trust in God’s provision. We give not out of obligation, but as an act of worship and obedience.

5. Baptism by Immersion

“…you were buried with Christ in baptism… and raised with Him…” – Colossians 2:12

We follow the biblical example of baptism by full immersion, symbolizing death to sin and new life in Christ. It’s a public declaration of faith and an act of obedience for every believer.

At Open Doors Baptist Church, we practice baptism by immersion in water just as Jesus was baptized and as the Bible teaches.
This act symbolizes the believer’s identification with Christ in His death, burial, and resurrection. It is a public declaration of faith and obedience, representing the washing away of sin and the beginning of a new life in Christ.

6. Spirit-Led Living

“If you remain in Me and I in you, you will bear much fruit…” – John 15:5
“…God is working in you, giving you the desire and the power to do what pleases Him.” – Philippians 2:13

We can’t live the Christian life in our own strength. We rely daily on the Holy Spirit to guide, empower, and transform us. Spirit-led living produces fruit that glorifies God.

7. Telling Others About Christ

“Always be prepared to give an answer… for the hope that you have.” – 1 Peter 3:15

We are called to share the Good News. Whether through personal conversation or public invitation, every Christian is a witness for Christ. We regularly encourage members to share their faith and invite others into the life-changing message of the Gospel.
